Rev. Johnson A. Beaven, III

Johnson A. Beaven III is pastor of Citadel of Faith Church of God in Christ (COGIC). He enjoys serving people, preaching and teaching God's Word, and leading the Citadel of Faith congregation.  He delights in seeing people grow in their relationship with God as they develop by integrating biblical principles and applying the wisdom of God's Word in all areas of life.


Pastor Beaven serves in the Church of God in Christ denomination on the executive staff of the International Department of Evangelism; and in the Indiana North Central Jurisdiction as an Administrative Episcopal Assistant, a District Superintendent, and a member on the Executive Board.


Pastor Beaven's community involvement has included the Indianapolis Committee for the National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, the Community Resurrection Partnership, the Indianapolis Far Eastside Action Coalition, and the Indianapolis Metro Ministerial Alliance. He formerly served as the first chairperson of the CBFRS Federal Grant Steering Committee for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. He is a religion columnist for the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper.


An advocate for ministry excellence through education, Pastor Beaven is an adjunct faculty for the COGIC C. H. Mason Jurisdictional Institutes. He formally served as the local coordinator and an instructor of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) Certificate in Theology Program at the Indianapolis Study Site, and a former adjunct instructor at the Indianapolis extension of the HBCU Simmons College of Kentucky. He has consulted church leaders in the USA in establishing local church Bible institutes.


Pastor Beaven is a graduate of Ball State University and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and has taken additional studies at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. He was an inaugural 2012 recipient of Indy’s Salute to Gospel Legends People’s Choice Award. He was honored at the 2014 COGIC International AIM Convention for inclusion in The Whole Truth magazine’s inaugural listing of COGIC’s 100 Influential Pastors. He was a recipient of the International Department of Evangelism Award of Distinction at the 2016 COGIC International AIM Convention.  Pastor Beaven has been featured in several publications of Who's Who In Black Indianapolis ®. He is married to Lady Rita Mooney-Beaven, and the father of one adult son.
